Hymenotomy

This procedure is intended for women with defects of the hymen. A thickened or imperforate hymen is a congenital condition that often requires surgical intervention. Excessive thickening and stiffening of the hymen may prevent a woman from leading an active sexual life. Hymenotomy is also recommended for women who have not yet initiated sexual activity due to fear of pain caused by tearing of the hymen. Performing a small incision under local anesthesia allows for a painless and safe start to sexual life.
