Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy for Cesarean Section Wounds

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a concentration of platelets obtained from the patient’s own blood. It contains growth factors such as PDGF, TGF-β, VEGF, EGF, FGF, CTGF, and IGF-1, which stimulate skin regeneration, support wound healing, and improve the appearance of scars.

Mechanism of PRP in the Healing of Cesarean Section Wounds

After platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is applied to the area around the scar, the platelets are activated and release growth factors. These bioactive substances stimulate fibroblast proliferation, collagen synthesis, and angiogenesis, contributing to accelerated wound healing and improved quality of scar tissue.

Procedure of PRP Therapy for Cesarean Scar Healing

  1. Blood collection – a small amount of venous blood is drawn from the patient.
  2. PRP preparation – the blood is centrifuged to separate the platelet-rich plasma.
  3. PRP injection – the obtained plasma is injected into and around the cesarean scar using a fine needle.
  4. Duration – the entire procedure usually takes 30 to 60 minutes.
