Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy is an endoscopic procedure used to diagnose and treat infertility, recurrent miscarriages, and abnormalities and diseases within the uterine cavity. The procedure involves inserting a hysteroscope through the vagina and cervical canal into the uterine cavity. It is an optical device with a diameter of 3-7 mm equipped with a system of lenses and a digital camera as well as micro-tools enabling the removal of lesions or taking their samples for histopathological examination. This procedure allows imaging and assessment of the inside of the cervical canal, the uterine cavity and the uterine orifices of the fallopian tubes, which makes it possible to locate such lesions as polyps, myomas, adhesions, cancerous tumors or congenital defects.

Indications for a diagnostic hysteroscopy procedure may include:

·         difficulty getting pregnant (infertility)

·         miscarriages

·         problems with achieving pregnancy through IVF

·         abnormalities of the uterus

·         abnormalities of the menstrual cycle

·         bleeding from the genital tract of unclear origin

·         proliferative changes of the endometrium

·         adhesions, submucosal myomas, polyps, septa

Anesthesia:

General anesthesia

Indications for operative hysteroscopy may include:

·         intrauterine adhesions

·         submucosal myomas

·         polyps

·         congenital defects of the uterus

·         necessary collection of material for histopathological examination

Preparation:

·         the procedure can be performed after the end of menstrual bleeding up to the twelfth day of the cycle, in postmenopausal patients - at any time

·         do not eat or drink anything for 6 hours before the examination

·         you cannot drive after general anesthesia, so it is best to come with an accompanying person
