Phimosis treatment

Phimosis treatment

Phimosis is an anatomical defect (congenital or acquired), consisting of a narrowing of the opening of the foreskin, preventing its proper removal from the glans penis. It can cause severe discomfort and pain, especially during hygienic activities and sexual intercourse. It can also cause problems with erection, which in turn has a negative impact on satisfaction from sexual life. Phimosis also contributes to inflammation of the penile area, which is responsible for both the lingering and decomposing urine, but also exfoliating sebum, semen and bacteria. It can also cause recurrent inflammation in his sexual partners.

Phimosis is most often treated surgically. The procedure is performed by a urologist, after treating any inflammation or infection of the foreskin. It involves the removal of the narrowed part of the foreskin and/or making small incisions to widen the opening of the foreskin, allowing the exposure of the entire glans penis. In some men a foreskin and/or frenulum plication is sufficient. In other cases complete circumcision is necessary. The procedure is not complicated, takes a short time and is performed under local anesthesia.
